Venezuela’s Interim President Delcy Rodriguez yesterday doubled down on the country’s claim to the Essequibo region of Guyana, stating that its “rights” to the oil-rich Guyanese territory were “historical and irrefutable.”
Referencing Guyanese President Irfaan Ali and concern over a brooch she had worn during recent visits to Caribbean countries, she asked if Venezuela’s history books would be burned.
The brooch, worn by Rodriguez as she visited Barbados and Grenada in the past weeks, appeared to include the disputed region in a map of Venezuela. But Rodriguez said the map she wore was the only map she had known her entire life.
