PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico (AFP) — Hurricane Simon strengthened into a powerful Category 4 storm as it swept toward Mexico’s west coast, where it was expected to make landfall late Saturday or early Sunday.
The United States (US) National Hurricane Center said Simon could strengthen further as it approaches west-central Mexico with winds of 150 miles (240 km) per hour.
“Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion shortly in the hurricane warning area,” the center said.
