(Kaieteur News) – Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha on Wednesday downplayed the 6.4% contraction in Guyana’s other crops subsector, expressing optimism that the sector will rebound by the end of the year.
Mustapha was responding to questions from the media at the launch of Agriculture Month about the overall contraction in the agriculture sector and the sharper decline recorded in other crops. “I’m quite optimistic that we will rebound. That will rebound at the end of the year because I don’t think it’s major issues. They were very small, small… minus in certain areas, and I think that was because of certain conditions in the weather,” Mustapha said.
According to the Government’s 2026 Mid-Year Report, the agriculture, fishing and forestry sectors contracted by an estimated 0.5% during the first half of the year.
