Government has confirmed that it will permit United States military aircraft to transit local airports in the coming weeks, as part of ongoing bilateral security cooperation between the two countries.
In a media release issued on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs said approvals had been granted for the movements, which the United States has described as logistical in nature. According to the Ministry, the aircraft transits will facilitate supply replenishment and routine personnel rotations and do not signal any change in Trinidad and Tobago’s defence posture.
The Ministry stressed that the decision falls within long-standing security and defence arrangements between Port of Spain and Washington, aimed at strengthening regional safety, security and stability.
