Keshorn Walcott wrote a new chapter of history at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo yesterday, becoming the first person from Trinidad and Tobago to strike gold at both the World Athletics Championships and the Olympic Games.
Thirty-two-year-old Walcott landed the spear 88.16 metres to crown himself world champion in the Men’s javelin. The huge fourth-round effort actually extended the lead he had established in round two, the Toco thrower having produced a big 87.83m effort to jump to the top of the leaderboard.
