PNM Senator Sanjiv Boodhu says the State could face hundreds of compensation claims from people detained under preventive detention orders (PDOs) during the state of emergency (SoE) which ended yesterday.
Boodhu said people who were detained under PDOs and subsequently released without charge could seek damages from the State, warning that the financial consequences could extend to future administrations.
Boodhu made the comments during a telephone interview yesterday, saying the Government should expect legal action from detainees who believe their rights were infringed during the SoE.
