(Kaieteur News) – Construction remains one of the fastest-growing industries in Guyana as the country’s economy continues to expand. Driven primarily by new land ownership, renovations, accommodation and commercial needs, there is also the introduction of innovative construction techniques, advanced building materials, and modern interior and exterior finishes that enhance the appearance of structures. However, aesthetics alone is not enough. The durability, reliability, and overall quality of building materials are equally important to ensure safety, performance, and long-term value. These critical characteristics are achieved and maintained through the application of standards, which help ensure that construction products meet established requirements for quality and safety.
At this year’s International Building Expo set for June 25-28 at the National Stadium, Providence, the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) will be showcasing some of the available standards for the construction sector. The theme for this year is Guyana at 60: Building strong foundation for a sustainable future.
