AN off-duty maxi-taxi driver was killed on Wednesday when the vehicle he was driving collided with a truck along the Eastern Main Road, Arima.
He was identified as Nigel Cain.
Police said that sometime around 3.30 p.m., Cain was driving his Mitsubishi pick-up in the company of another person in the front passenger seat when a truck heading in the opposite direction slammed into his van. The collision caused both vehicles to veer off the road. As a result, both Cain and the man sustained injuries, and were both taken to the Arima Hospital via ambulance where Cain was pronounced dead on arrival.
