Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has re­mained most­ly silent fol­low­ing a U.S. Em­bassy se­cu­ri­ty alert to­day ad­vis­ing cit­i­zens to avoid all U.S. gov­ern­ment fa­cil­i­ties in Trinidad and To­ba­go through the hol­i­day week­end due to a “height­ened state of alert”.

The em­bassy’s mes­sage urged peo­ple to be aware of their sur­round­ings, mon­i­tor rep­utable news out­lets, and re­port sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­i­ty to lo­cal au­thor­i­ties. While such no­tices are not un­usu­al, the alert has un­set­tled many giv­en the es­ca­lat­ing ten­sions and like­li­hood of mil­i­tary ac­tion in Venezuela.
