Police seized a firearm and ammunition on the banks of the Chandernagore River on September 5 as part of a targeted operation conducted by members of the National Special Operations Unit (NSOU).
In a release, the police service said officers went to Limehead Road, Chase Village, Chaguanas, based on information received from the public about the possible presence of illegal firearms and ammunition.
It said a search was done approximately 200 feet off the roadway, in dense bush along the bank of the Chandernagore River bank, where officers discovered and seized a shotgun and seven rounds of 12-gauge cartridges. The items were secured and lodged at the Piarco Police Station, pending further enquiries.
