Jamaica’s Dejanae Oakley made a triumphant start to her professional career on Friday, winning the women’s 400m at the PreFontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Oakley, who recently won the NCAA 400m outdoor title at the same track, clocked 49.64 seconds as she held off American Aaliya Butler who was second in 49.97 seconds with Jamaican national champion Stacey-Ann Williams placing third in 50.12 seconds.
The Wanda Diamond League meet continues on Saturday with another 13 Jamaicans set to participate on the main day of competition.
