(Kaieteur News) – The Government of Guyana is looking to diversify the Essequibo Coast’s agricultural sector beyond rice production, with plans to expand poultry farming, high-value crop cultivation and other areas of development, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha has said.
Speaking at Friday’s sod-turning ceremony for a new rice storage facility, Mustapha said the investment in rice infrastructure represents only one component of the broader development planned for Region Two.
“We are looking to do poultry. We are looking to do the high-value crops, and also, we are looking to bring other forms of development. So, the storage of rice is just one component or one aspect of the development that will be taking place in this area,” the minister said.
