A team led by the Director General of the Public Utilities and Aviation Ministry, Alfonso De Armas, and Government Member of Parliament, James Bond, conducted a working visit to Mahdia to assess ongoing water supply challenges affecting residents.
During the visit, De Armas and Bond met with officials from Guyana Water Inc (GWI) and inspected the Salbora Catchment Falls, which serves as the main source of water supply for the town. The inspection focused on reported issues where rainfall causes debris and excess sediment to collect in the intake screens, affecting the flow of water to the system.
De Armas stated that a contractor has been identified and that work is expected to begin shortly to address the problem and improve the reliability of the supply system.
