(Kaieteur News) – Britain’s King Charles III has expressed profound sorrow over the devastating loss of life resulting from the capsizing of the MV Barima, extending heartfelt condolences to President Irfaan Ali, the people of Guyana and the families grieving loved ones.
In a personal message signed “Charles R,” the King said he and Queen Camilla were “most profoundly shocked and saddened” to learn of the maritime disaster, which has become one of the deadliest tragedies in Guyana’s history.
Recalling his visit to Guyana, King Charles said he retained “the fondest memories” of the country and was therefore writing with “particular sorrow” to convey the couple’s “deepest possible sympathy and heartfelt condolences” to the nation.
