A 54-year-old mason was killed on Monday night when fire swept through his home in Rincon Road, Las Cuevas, leaving behind his 15-year-old son who is special needs.

Some neighbours of Ian Burnley, who died in the fire, complained about how long it took the Fire Service to arrive on the scene, giving an estimated time of around three hours.

When the Express visited the tight-knit community yesterday, Burnley’s cousin Hollis Gordon said their family would now have to meet and decide how they would take care of Burnley’s son, a Form Two student at Blanchisseuse Secondary School.
