KINGSTON, Jamaica — More than 40 Jamaican junior badminton players are set to gain valuable international experience when the inaugural Smash Jamaica 2026 tournament kicks off from August 5-18, with the Jamaica Badminton Association (JBA) describing the event as a major step in its long-term plan to elevate the sport locally.
Smash Jamaica will feature five tournaments, beginning with the Jamaica International (August 5-9), a Badminton World Federation (BWF) international series event that offers world-ranking points. Also on the schedule are the Carebaco Junior and Senior Team Championships (August 9-12) and the Carebaco Junior and Senior Individuals (August 14-18).
Speaking at the launch at Janga’s Soundbar & Grill, JBA President Vishwanauth Tolan said the initiative is designed to bring world-class competition to Jamaica rather than relying solely on costly overseas exposure for local athletes.
