Commission wraps up site visit, prepares Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal for M/V Barima public inquiry

Kaieteur News – The Commission of Inquiry into the capsizing of the M/V Barima announced today that while a firm start date has not yet been set, several preliminary milestones have been completed since its appointment on July 30. Commissioners have conducted an initial site visit of the maritime accident, established an operational Secretariat, and secured the Arthur Chung Conference Centre as the official venue for all public proceedings.

The panel is currently conducting technical reviews of evidence acquired from key state agencies, including the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), the Transport and Harbours Division, the Guyana Coast Guard, and the Air Guard. Investigations are focusing on the vessel’s seaworthiness, sailing conditions, and crew operations during the voyage.

The Commission is also finalizing its Rules of Procedure, developing a public web portal for official records, and compiling a list of potential witnesses.
