The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that, effective today, March 2, mandatory Fixed Penalty Warnings are now in force for 18 specified traffic violations under the Eleventh Schedule of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.
The new measure is aimed at improving road safety, encouraging compliance and promoting corrective action by giving motorists an opportunity to fix certain defects before being fined, said the Ministry.
Under the system, drivers found in breach of the listed offences will receive a Fixed Penalty Warning instead of an immediate Fixed Penalty Notice. The warning allows motorists three or seven business days , excluding weekends, public holidays, Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday, to remedy the defect.
