The Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago has expressed grave concern over the recent leak and widespread circulation on social media of confidential information related to a sexual assault report made by a junior attorney against a senior legal professional.
In a statement issued Friday, the Association condemned the publication of the complainant’s name, image, and police statement, which have been shared online in breach of the Sexual Offences Act.
Section 32 of the Act makes it a criminal offence to publish any material likely to identify a complainant in a sexual offence case. The Association warned that the law applies to both traditional and social media users.
