Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has accused the People’s National Movement (PNM) of fuelling lawlessness, racial hostility and intimidation against law enforcement and state prosecutors.
She said comments and activity linked to political actors are encouraging contempt for law enforcement and creating conditions that could lead to violence against officers and prosecutors.
Referring to a protest outside the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) yesterday, Persad-Bissessar said there were attempts to normalise racist invective and criminal behaviour, while insisting her government will continue to stand firmly with the country’s protective services.
