Guyana’s Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, a candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary General (SG), has pledged that, if selected for the organisation’s top post, she will prioritise the critical reforms needed to ensure the UN remains effective, relevant, and equipped to meet the challenges of the present and the future.

She made the remarks during an interview with CGTN’s Elaine Reyes, host of UN Insider, where they discussed UN80, multilateralism, and the prospect of the UN electing its first female SG.

“The UN has stood the test of time. And it’s 80 years now. And I think in any organisation, there comes a time when you have to look at what you have done well, what you can do better. And I think we’re at that time right now. And as you know, reform is in the air. Work has started on that. But I truly believe that there is no alternative to the UN. And we can make it better,” Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett expressed.
