Education Ministry claims all 777 schools opened today

The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion said all 777 Gov­ern­ment and Gov­ern­ment-As­sist­ed schools, in­clud­ing Ear­ly Child­hood Care and Ed­u­ca­tion cen­tres, opened on Mon­day for the start of the 2026/2027 aca­d­e­m­ic year, al­though re­pair work re­mains out­stand­ing at a few schools.

The min­istry said the re­pairs will be car­ried out af­ter school hours and on week­ends, while main­tain­ing health and safe­ty stan­dards. It al­so said its School Nu­tri­tion Pro­gramme, School Sup­plies and Book Grant, and dig­i­tal and AI-en­hanced learn­ing ini­tia­tives will con­tin­ue, with in­com­ing Form One stu­dents ex­pect­ed to re­ceive lap­tops dur­ing the first term.

The min­istry al­so en­dorsed Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar’s call for greater dis­ci­pline, reg­u­lar at­ten­dance and parental re­spon­si­bil­i­ty, in­clud­ing her in­struc­tion to teach­ers to send per­sis­tent­ly mis­be­hav­ing stu­dents home to their par­ents.
