The Ministry of Education said all 777 Government and Government-Assisted schools, including Early Childhood Care and Education centres, opened on Monday for the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, although repair work remains outstanding at a few schools.
The ministry said the repairs will be carried out after school hours and on weekends, while maintaining health and safety standards. It also said its School Nutrition Programme, School Supplies and Book Grant, and digital and AI-enhanced learning initiatives will continue, with incoming Form One students expected to receive laptops during the first term.
The ministry also endorsed Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s call for greater discipline, regular attendance and parental responsibility, including her instruction to teachers to send persistently misbehaving students home to their parents.
