Iran’s Supreme Leader AyÂaÂtolÂlah Ali Khamenei said on ThursÂday his counÂtry had deÂlivÂered a “slap to AmerÂiÂca’s face” with its strike on an AmerÂiÂcan base in Qatar, and warned against any furÂther U.S. atÂtacks in his first pubÂlic comÂments since a ceaseÂfire was deÂclared with IsÂrael afÂter 12 days of war.
Khamenei spoke in a recordÂed video broadÂcast on IranÂian state teleÂviÂsion, his first apÂpearÂance since June 19. The 86-year-old looked and soundÂed more tired than he did onÂly a week ago, speakÂing in a hoarse voice and ocÂcaÂsionÂalÂly stumÂbling over his words.
The more-than 10 minute speech by the supreme leader was filled with warnÂings and threats diÂrectÂed toÂward the UnitÂed States and IsÂrael.
