U.S.-born Pope Leo XIV pushed back MonĀday on PresĀiĀdent DonĀald Trumpās broadĀside against him over the U.S.-IsĀrael war in Iran, telling reĀporters that the VatĀiĀcanās apĀpeals for peace and recĀonĀcilĀiĀaĀtion are rootĀed in the Gospel, and that he doesnāt fear the Trump adĀminĀisĀtraĀtion.
āTo put my mesĀsage on the same plane as what the presĀiĀdent has atĀtemptĀed to do here, I think is not unĀderĀstandĀing what the mesĀsage of the Gospel is,ā Leo told The AsĀsoĀciĀatĀed Press aboard the paĀpal plane en route to AlĀgeĀria. āAnd Iām sorĀry to hear that but I will conĀtinĀue on what I beĀlieve is the misĀsion of the church in the world toĀday.ā
