Two InĀdeĀpenĀdent SenĀaĀtors have backed GovĀernĀmentās conĀtroĀverĀsial bid to apĀply a law retroacĀtiveĀly to reĀvoke a prime minĀisĀteĀrĀiĀal penĀsion for StuĀart Young, who held ofĀfice for just 30 days.
Michael SiĀmon de la Bastide, SC, and CourtĀney Mc Nish spoke in supĀport of the Prime MinĀisĀterās PenĀsions (AmendĀment) Bill, 2025, which would disĀqualĀiĀfy forĀmer prime minĀisĀters from reĀceivĀing penĀsions if they served less than one year and demitĀted ofĀfice afĀter March 10.
Young beĀcame prime minĀisĀter on March 17, 2025, and served unĀtil April 28, when the PeoĀpleās NaĀtionĀal MoveĀment lost the GenĀerĀal ElecĀtion. UnĀder the curĀrent law, he qualĀiĀfies for a penĀsion of $87,000 a month.
