(Kaieteur News) – Leader of Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), Amanza Walton has proposed a “managed transition” of opposition representation at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
The proposal comes alongside her nomination of prominent figure Nigel London to serve as a new GECOM commissioner. The recommendations were submitted directly to Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed in a formal response to his ongoing consultation process regarding the appointment of opposition-nominated commissioners.
Walton stated that her framework is designed to preserve critical institutional memory within the commission while simultaneously facilitating renewal and pushing forward a broader electoral reform agenda. To balance continuity with renewal, the FGM leader is advocating for a phased approach rather than a complete overhaul of the current lineup.
