POINTE Gourde in Chaguaramas, an area long known for its “graveyard” of abandoned and decaying vessels, has now become the site of a troubling environmental hazard, with derelict boats being used as dumping grounds for old engine oil.
The issue was highlighted yesterday, when corporate secretary of NGO Fishermen and Friends of the Sea (FFOS) Gary Aboud led members of the media on a tour of the area.
Aboud, who has been lobbying for years to have the abandoned vessels removed, is calling on the authorities to intervene.
