(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) has accused the Ministry of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation of delaying negotiations for increased wages, salaries, allowances and other conditions of service for public sector workers, warning that the continued inaction is undermining workers’ welfare and contributing to the loss of skilled professionals.
In a September 7, 2026 letter to Permanent Secretary Soyinka Grogan, the union expressed “vehement displeasure and deep frustration” over what it described as the unacceptable delay and indifferent manner in which negotiations were being handled.
The union’s concerns were acknowledged in a response from the Permanent Secretary dated September 8, in which the Ministry said it was finalising the team that would negotiate with the union and indicated that a date for the commencement of talks would be communicated once all team members were available, likely on or before September 18, 2026. A meeting has since been set for this week.
