Penny: T&T remains a First Peoples homeland

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO was first a homeland to Indigenous peoples, and it remains one still, Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has said.
She made the comment in recognition of the United Nations International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, which was celebrated yesterday.
In a statement on her Facebook account, Beckles said: “Today, as the world observes the United Nations International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Trinidad and Tobago recognises a truth that pre-dates our flag and every institution we now call our own: this nation was first a homeland to Indigenous peoples, and it remains one still.
