The President of the Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber, Manniram Prashad, has expressed strong concern and condemned the display of a map at the Suriname Energy, Oil and Gas Summit (SEOGS) 2026 that depicted the New River Triangle as part of Suriname.
The New River Triangle, a territory located within the sovereign borders of Guyana, was shown in the presentation materials as belonging to Suriname, a representation GOGEC has described as inaccurate and misleading.
GOGEC stated that international conferences, investment forums, and industry gatherings are expected to maintain accuracy and respect for internationally recognized borders and sovereign territories. The Chamber emphasized that the New River Triangle remains an integral part of Guyana’s territory, as established through internationally recognized legal and historical processes.
