(Kaieteur News) – Opposition Member of Parliament, Sherod Duncan, has tabled a series of questions in the National Assembly demanding answers from the Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond on the legal mechanisms and safeguards governing investigations into high-ranking officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
The Parliamentary Notice, submitted on October 16, 2026, for oral response under the heading “Interim Safeguards During Investigation of Senior Police Officers,” comes amid heightened public focus on the administrative handling of top force members, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fizal Karimbaksh, who is accused of rape.
Duncan’s line of questioning seeks to ascertain the exact legal framework in effect as of October 6, 2026, asking the Minister, “without asking the Minister to comment on the merits of any criminal allegation under investigation”, to clarify “the lawful authority relied upon by the Ministry of Home Affairs or the Guyana Police Force for placing an officer holding the rank of Deputy Commissioner on administrative leave or otherwise restricting operational duties while an investigation is ongoing.”
