THE Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) has appealed for restraint and respect in public commentary surrounding the Court of Appeal’s recent decision in the Hadeed matter, warning that personal attacks on judges risk undermining confidence in the administration of justice.

In a media release yesterday, the association said it was concerned by recent comments, particularly on social media, which included personal attacks on members of the Court of Appeal following last Friday’s ruling involving businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife Genevieve.

While acknowledging that judicial decisions are open to public scrutiny and criticism, LATT stressed that such criticism should remain respectful and should not descend into “unfounded allegations” questioning the integrity or independence of the Judiciary.
