Man ambushed, shot in Siparia

A 32-year-old man of Gulf View, La Ro­main, es­caped death af­ter he was am­bushed by gun­men af­ter leav­ing his friend’s home in Siparia yes­ter­day morn­ing. He told po­lice he was lim­ing at his friend’s home at Seukaran Trace, Salt­mine Trace, Thick Vil­lage, but left around 12.10 am.

While dri­ving in his white Hyundai H100 van along a pri­vate road­way from his friend’s yard, he heard sev­er­al rapid gun­shots and stopped. In front of his car, he saw two gun­men wear­ing black hood­ies who fired at him. Fear­ing for his life, he quick­ly re­versed in­to a yard, hur­ried­ly ex­it­ed his ve­hi­cle and ran to­wards his friend’s home. It was on­ly then he re­alised that he had been shot in his ab­domen and left leg. He was tak­en to the Siparia Dis­trict Health Fa­cil­i­ty and trans­ferred to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal in sta­ble con­di­tion. Of­fi­cers of the South West­ern Di­vi­sion re­spond­ed, and PC Con­stan­tine is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.—Sascha Wil­son
