By an almost unanimous vote, the PNM General Council has agreed to hold a convention on Sunday, June 29.
With only two abstentions, 100-plus members in attendance endorsed an early election and convention.
Speaking at a news conference last night following the meeting, PRO of the party Faris Al-Rawi said the General Council believed the experiment of splitting the positions of prime minister or opposition leader from that of political leader (as happened when Keith Rowley remained political leader while Stuart Young was prime minister) did not work.
