OutÂgoÂing Prime MinÂisÂter Dr KeiÂth RowÂley has called on Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo to âcomÂplete its inÂdeÂpenÂdenceâ by sevÂerÂing ties with the UnitÂed KingÂdomâs Privy CounÂcil and adoptÂing the Caribbean Court of JusÂtice (CCJ) as the naÂtionâs fiÂnal court of apÂpeal.
âIt is unÂjust, it is disÂgraceÂful that they would disÂreÂgard our wider naÂtionÂal inÂterÂest, put a fee on us and tell us while you have to come to us to have our law lords tell you what is right and wrong, you have to pay for a visa to come and do that.â
RowÂleyâs thoughts on the conÂtroÂverÂsial matÂter were shared durÂing his fiÂnal adÂdress to PeoÂpleâs NaÂtionÂal MoveÂment (PNM) supÂportÂers yesÂterÂday durÂing a poÂlitÂiÂcal ralÂly at WoodÂford Square, Port-of-Spain, where the parÂty preÂsentÂed all 41 canÂdiÂdates. It was the first time he spoke about the UnitÂed KingÂdom govÂernÂmentâs sudÂden imÂpoÂsiÂtion of visa reÂquireÂments on Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo citÂiÂzens, a move that has sparked wideÂspread deÂbate and conÂcern.
