MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica—The Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is calling on residents across the region to take proactive steps to prevent dengue by regularly identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

The Aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads dengue, breeds in containers that collect water. The risk of breeding may increase following rainfall and during the warmer months, making it important for residents to inspect their homes, workplaces and communities at least once per week.

Ryan Morris, regional public health specialist for vector control at the WRHA, said consistent action by residents is essential to reducing the mosquito population.
