Dad saves four-year-old from fire, family dog dies

DEONATH MAHARAJ quickly picked up his sleeping four-year-old son and raced with him from danger after a fire ignited near the child on Wednesday.

The family's dog, Toby, also tried to rescue the child but did not survive the blaze.

Speaking at the burnt remains of their destroyed San Francique home yesterday, Maharaj said that his sole focus was saving his son and 26-year-old wife.
