Govt. now confirms new oil discovery by Exxon

(Kaieteur News) – Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, has confirmed a new oil discovery by ExxonMobil in the Stabroek Block, with tests currently underway to determine the quantity and commercial potential of the resources.

In a brief statement, Bharrat disclosed that ExxonMobil “recently made the Rockhead-1 discovery”, adding that tests are ongoing to establish the value of the resources.

Bharrat said Rockhead-1 was struck adjacent to the Ranger-1 discovery made by Exxon in 2018. At the time, the oil giant described Ranger-1, the sixth discovery as its largest find in Guyana. The company is still conducting appraisal activity at the Ranger-1 discovery according to the subject minister.
