Trinidad and Tobago has the foundation to become a regional player in artificial intelligence, but the country must urgently strengthen its policies and safeguards as it moves ahead with ambitious plans for large-scale AI infrastructure, says the local researcher behind the country’s latest global AI assessment.
Country researcher Shurland George, a capacity development specialist working at the intersection of education, data and artificial intelligence, said the findings of the Global Index on Responsible AI (GIRAI) 2026 should be viewed as a starting point for national action.
