(Kaieteur News) – A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has condemned the remand to prison of Opposition Leader, Azruddin Mohamed, MP, describing the decision as troubling and accusing the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government of using state institutions to target political opponents.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, following Mohamed’s court appearance and subsequent remand, APNU called for respect for the rule of law, due process and the constitutional rights of every citizen.
Mohamed was charged under the Cybercrime Act in connection with the release of state police surveillance footage linked to an ongoing investigation into a recent shooting incident.
