(Kaieteur News) – A pre-trial review has been set for 11th September , 2026, followed by an in-person trial on 29th October, 2026, in the $600 million-plus libel case filed by President Irfaan Ali’s mother, Bibi Shariman Ali, against Hana Mohamed, sister of Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed.
Ali, a retired senior education official, filed the multi-million-dollar lawsuit against Mohamed over a Facebook post which allegedly accused her of involvement in high-level political corruption, bribery and gold-smuggling schemes.
Through her attorneys at London House Chambers—Devindra Kissoon, Natasha M. Vieira and Abhimanyu Dev—Ali is claiming general damages “in excess of G$300,000,000.00” for each of the libellous statements contained in the post. She is also seeking aggravated and exemplary damages “in excess of G$300,000,000.00”.
