‘End the silence’ ...Chris Ram blasts Barima COI over weeks of inaction

(Kaieteur News) – Attorney-at-law and chartered accountant Christopher Ram has launched a scathing critique against the MV Barima Commission of Inquiry (COI), demanding that the tribunal immediately end its weeks-long silence and account to the public for its complete lack of visible progress.

In a letter addressed directly to the Commissioners, Ram criticised the body for failing to communicate with grieving families nearly four weeks after being sworn in on July 30, 2026. The tribunal was established to investigate the devastating July 18 maritime catastrophe, which stands as one of the gravest peacetime tragedies in Guyana’s history.

“I therefore respectfully call upon the Commission, without further delay, to address the families, survivors and the public; explain the delay since July 30; publish a timetable for the commencement of its work and first public sitting; and state when its Rules of Procedure will be published and how affected persons may seek recognition, representation and participation in the Inquiry,” Ram declared, placing the primary demand at the forefront of his appeal.
