CHANDIGARH, India — Skipper Shai Hope overcame a groin injury to produce a memorable century and orchestrate a record chase as West Indies secured a consolation five-wicket victory over India in the final one-day international on Saturday.
Having already taken a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series, India rode on a career-best unconquered 129 by KL Rahul and a breezy 92 by opener Rohit Sharma to recover from 4-2 to post a mammoth 351-7 in New Chandigarh.
West Indies’ previous highest successful chase was 331-5 against Ireland in May 2019, but Hope rewrote the record books with an innings of the highest quality as he almost single-handedly got the job done.
