Ma­yaro MP Nicholas Mor­ris has wel­comed Gov­ern­ment’s de­ci­sion to es­tab­lish a joint army-po­lice post in his con­stituen­cy, say­ing it re­flects Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar’s com­mit­ment to strength­en­ing se­cu­ri­ty in both rur­al and ur­ban com­mu­ni­ties.

Mor­ris, who is al­so Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter, thanked Per­sad-Bisses­sar af­ter the an­nounce­ment that Ma­yaro would be among 30 com­mu­ni­ties ex­pect­ed to re­ceive joint army-po­lice posts over the next four months.

In a state­ment, Mor­ris said the ini­tia­tive formed part of the Gov­ern­ment’s wider strat­e­gy to tack­le crime and en­sure rur­al com­mu­ni­ties re­ceive the same lev­el of se­cu­ri­ty at­ten­tion as ur­ban ar­eas.
