One morning off the coast of Bonasse recently, fisherman Kirk Gayah’s fishing boat carrying four workers was seized by Venezuelan interceptors.
They demanded $2,000, two boxes of chicken, boat oil and four cans of gas for the release of his vessel. It was a price he desperately paid, he told the Sunday Express.
But since then, he has returned to the water with caution, venturing no farther than necessary, fearing it will happen again.
