Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding is highlighting the resilience of Jamaicans in his Emancipation Day message, drawing parallels between the enslaved’s fight for freedom and ongoing recovery efforts.

“The great resilience of our people is one of the enduring lessons of Emancipation. Nearly two centuries later, we have come a far way, and we should never underestimate how remarkable our national journey has been,” he said as the country celebrates the 1838 end of slavery.

He urged Jamaicans to use the freedom they gained with Emancipation to honour their ancestors and fulfil the dreams they had for future generations.
