The ExÂimÂbankâs failÂure to achieve its full manÂdate may have conÂtributed to the disÂmissal of Navin DookÂerÂan as ExÂport ImÂport Bank of T&T Ltd (ExÂimÂbank) CEO.
PlanÂning, EcoÂnomÂic AfÂfairs and DeÂvelÂopÂment MinÂisÂter and MinÂisÂter in the MinÂistry of FiÂnance Dr Kennedy SwaratsÂingh said the deÂciÂsion was ulÂtiÂmateÂly up to the board, and he had litÂtle knowlÂedge conÂcernÂing the deÂciÂsion to reÂmove DookÂerÂan last FriÂday.
âWhat I can tell you is that the ExÂimÂbank is in need of reÂvampÂing. BeÂcause, as you know, the forÂmer govÂernÂment used the ExÂimÂbank for a numÂber of things, inÂcludÂing inÂcreasÂing the catÂeÂgories of things that can be used or acÂcessed through the ExÂimÂbank. So durÂing COVID, they would have put in an esÂsenÂtial catÂeÂgoÂry that they would have kept on even afÂter COVID. So ExÂimÂbank was in need of upÂdatÂing and has to be upÂdatÂed,â said SwaratsÂingh when asked about DookÂerÂanâs reÂmoval outÂside ParÂliaÂment yesÂterÂday.
