THE early morning showers could not dampen the spirit of the faithful yesterday, as hundreds of Roman Catholic parishioners, students and clergy filled the streets of Downtown Port of Spain in celebration of Corpus Christi, one of the most sacred days on the church’s calendar.
Amid the rhythmic beat of hymns and the fragrant scent of incense drifting through the air, the Corpus Christi procession brought devotion and tradition to the capital, as worshippers marked the day honouring the Holy Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
The day began with a solemn Mass officiated by Archbishop Jason Gordon at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. In an outdoor setting, tents were erected on the church compound and along the promenade, with song and reverence echoing through the capital, setting the tone for the procession that would follow.
