Transparency, procurement compliance, anti-corruption safeguards and public-sector accountability remain priorities as PPP/C Government oversees billions in oil revenues
Guyana’s oil-fuelled economic boom is generating extraordinary wealth, but the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is warning that stronger oversight, greater transparency and tighter accountability are needed to ensure that the country’s expanding public finances translate into lasting and inclusive development.
In concluding its 2026 Article IV consultation with Guyana, the IMF Executive Board acknowledged the country’s rapid economic expansion but highlighted persistent priorities in public-sector governance, procurement compliance, oil-sector audits, anti-corruption measures and the management of state enterprises.
