DESPITE their strong interest in the outcome of the April 28 general election, Venezuelan activists in Trinidad have dismissed social media claims that migrants are eager to vote.
During a post-Cabinet news conference on Thursday, Prime Minister Stuart Young denied that the Government or the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) was registering migrants to vote. He described the claims as “mischievous” and urged the public to ignore what he called “misleading, fake, and false conversations” propagated by the United National Congress (UNC) and its agents.
Angie Ramnarine, coordinator of the La Romaine Migrant Support (LARMS), yesterday dismissed the claims as baseless conspiracy theories. Speaking via telephone, she stated, “There is no empirical evidence to suggest that migrants are being registered to vote.”
